HELIAR 40mm F2.8 Aspherical L*1 (L39)

Semi-wide-angle lens with sharp-edged optical design

Features

A compact wide-angle lens with a lens configuration based on the Voigtländer traditional Heliar design.By adopting the latest optical design and an aspherical lens, it keeps the filter diameter as small as φ34 mm, and the total length of the product from the mount surface is 20.2 mm. A highly portable lens with a condensed retro-style exterior.

Main Features

φ39mm screw mount

A universal mount that emerged in the 20th century, the φ39mm screw mount is used. It can be attached to any rangefinder camera that uses the same standard. In addition, by using the commercially available L/M adapter ring*2, it is possible to display either a 50mm or 35mm bright frame when attached to a rangefinder camera equipped with an automatic frame switching function.

Compact & high performance

By adopting an aspherical lens, it demonstrates excellent optical performance even when the aperture is wide open. The total length of the product is 20.2 mm (from the mount surface), it does not protrude into the viewfinder frame when used on a rangefinder camera, and handling feels also good.

Two types of exterior to choose from

The exterior is made of brass and comes in two types: silver and black paint. On the black painted model, even the mount is finished in black. And the focus lock button, focus lever, and infinite / short-distance stopper are nickel-plated to add an accent to the design.

Dedicated lens hood included

The lens comes with a dedicated aluminum screw-in hood and an aluminum cover-type front cap to provide not only shading performance but also design compatibility with the lens body. (The black painted type comes with a painted hood and front cap.)

Manual focus for reliable focus operation

By adopting an all-metal helicoid unit processed and adjusted with high precision and high-quality grease that produces an appropriate torque, focusing with a smooth operation feeling is realized. It enables fine focus adjustment.

Equipped with a rangefinder interlocking system

The high-precision rangefinder interlocking mechanism enables severe focusing near the maximum aperture. The shortest shooting distance linked to the rangefinder is 0.7m.

Full frame image circle

The lens secures a generous image circle that supports full-frame format. In addition, it achieves a very compact style compared to interchangeable lenses for single-lens reflex cameras.

*1 Universal mount with 39mm diameter screw type. Note that this is different from the bayonet-type L mount used by Leica, Sigma, Panasonic and Leitz Cine lenses.
*2 When combined with a mount adapter made by another company, the warranty does not cover any accidents or malfunctions of the camera/adapter/lens caused by the adapter, and we cannot be held responsible for such accidents or malfunctions.
